I’m 30 years old and I’m making my first pilgrimage to Ibiza next week. One of my best friends, Kitty, is DJing there and I’m going with Ce Ce & Kiera to join the party, and I’m very excited and very intrigued and at the very least I intend to eat prawns on the beach in the sunshine after a little swim in the ocean, baby. Ibiza style has, typically, been its own beast - the girls who frequent the island are beautiful and tanned and slim and they wear expensive sparkles and beautiful vintage silk and high cut bikinis. It’s beautiful and untouchable, and it’s so not me and my dysmorphic self esteem. So - I’ve been stuck in something of a predicament (I was going to say: apologies for the exaggeration! but actually, no, it is important enough to me to be a predicament. What I wear is an intrinsic part of who I am, it’s how I communicate how I feel and what I want to say; it’s expression) about what to wear in Ibiza, about what I wear in Ibiza specifically. And as such - I came up with this: my Ibiza style kit.
The Gucci Boho Look’s definitive feature is that it balances that specific level of heinous 2000s bohemian maxi skirt (like, Monsoon or from a festival fashion stall at Leeds 09) with a vintage, washed out graphic tee (the ultimate cool-girl piece). This balance, for reasons I cannot understand, creates the most nonchalant, dressed-up, sexy, chic (yes, chic!!!!!) outfit I could possibly imagine. That is what is so genius about Gucci, about Alessandro Michele’s Gucci: it’s so nonsensical that it makes total sense. This look is impossible and at the same time, a piece of piss. Thank u Alessandro, IDST <3
Slutty vintage is a look I have long been repping and will long continue to rep. Trashy printed vintage lingerie with loads of lace (the lace-up lace fingerless gloves are a MUST) is an endlessly perfect combination. Soooo Paris, Texas. Love the tiara too - will be added to my sluttiest satin slips. Dainty shoes make this look just the right side of conservative (that is to say: the opposite side to conservative).
If it wasn’t already blindingly obvious, Gucci is a huge influence in all of these style kit mood boards - Gucci is always a huge influence. I honestly think under Alessandro Michele’s curation, Gucci was the most pioneering design house in the world (in the universe); it has shaped everything that’s happened since in fashion. Including this: lingerie and marabou. A stroke of insight from the gods: literal underwear with marabou thrown over. If that isn’t Ibiza ready I literally do not know what is.
Ahhhhhh, my other sartorial love: Ashley Williams. So Shanghai, so utterly contemporary, so feminine, so cheeky. Such a lame way of describing such a fucking cool brand but I’m sorry, it’s true. This bow dress is so amazing and so perfect for a night at Pikes that I am DIYing it as we speak. Thank u Vinted and thank u flower market for the dress and ribbon, respectively.
This one is the hardest of the 5 looks to get right - I’ve been trying to recreate a Lifer dress for about 4 years now, unsuccessfully - but I think with some thoughtful styling this could work. A sequinned sports jersey (Beyond Retro 4 life) and a puffball metallic skirt (and a pair of Vivienne Westwood x Melissa heels) and this is a rly interesting and not-the-same-as-everyone-else look. I think I(biza) can handle it, ya know.
Thanks for reading this slightly different Fax Me Harder - what did u think???? Plz lemme know in the comments (b nice tho), I love writing about style and I love mood boards and I love choosing silly little outfits and writing silly little words about them. Big loveeeeeee as always <3 xxxxxxx
Slutty vintage is my fave and imo your trade mark. But whatever, you’re a fashion icon wear whatever the fuck u want. Love u
